DESCRIPTION OF POSITION FOR COMMUNITY PROTECTION PROGRAM PHYSICAL SECURITY SPECIALIST:

The Physical Security Specialist (PSS) works within SCN's Community Protection Program (CPP) and is responsible for assessing hazards and risks against physical structures and related preventative, protection, preparedness, mitigation, and response and recovery measures. This national program will establish technical and programmatic standards for best practices and implementation to ensure protection, prevention preparedness, and mitigation. This position will conduct extensive threat, hazard, vulnerability, risk assessments, and protective surveys of facilities and structures supporting SCN federations and partners. Furthermore, assessments will result in strong physical and technology recommendations and solutions, as they apply in emergency management, security and crisis/incident management, and communications context.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) concepts
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation and communication skills
  • Punctual, reliable, detailed oriented, task-oriented, and organized.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to work under pressure.
  • Close attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
  • Thorough knowledge and proficiency of physical, technological, best practices, and other systems for physical and infrastructure security.
  • Knowledge and experience are required in the areas of security assessment and vulnerability scanning, risk-based threat analysis, and security mitigation techniques.
  • Knowledge of Structural Engineering Concepts.
  • Familiarity with Incident Command System (ICS), National Incident Management System (NIMS), crisis management, incident management.
  • Skill in technical threat, hazard, risk assessment, and protective advance techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge of concepts, threats, and countermeasures regarding explosives, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices.
  • Certifications as a Physical Security Professional (PSP), Certified Protection Professional (CPP) (Preferred).
  • Expert in Microsoft Office Suite on both Mac and PC.
  • Must be willing to travel regularly and be on-call 24/7.
  • Ability to complete credentialing process to receive secret intelligence and information pursuant to the United States Department of Homeland Security guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the DHS FEMA Nonprofit Security Grant Program preferred.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, PLUS a minimum of ten (10) years experience in Emergency Management, Physical Security, Security Risk Management, Law Enforcement, Public Safety Administration, United States Armed Forces OR equivalent combination of professional work experience, training, and education. Preferred qualifications include prior supervisory and managerial experience.
