We are Secure Community Network (SCN), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) serving as the official safety and security organization of the Jewish community in North America. The Director will lead and implement the strategy to recruit, retain, develop talent and seek to develop an employee-oriented, high-performance culture that emphasizes excellence and collaboration.
Based in Chicago, the selected candidate will be responsible for establishing policies and best practices for the organization, administering benefits and supervising the HR team. The Director, Human Resources will also be responsible for performance management and personnel compliance with full-time headquarters staff and employees throughout the United States. The ideal candidate will exhibit an ability to maintain confidential information in a professional manner; demonstrated ability to produce results, prioritize and perform a variety of tasks on short notice within demanding deadlines; and proven ability to work under pressure.
- Work collaboratively with senior leadership and other stakeholders to build a culture of excellence and innovation
- Manage employee relations issues; ensure compliance with U.S. employment laws
- Provide tools and guidelines to support and implement policies and procedures, employment agreements, maintenance and development of HRIS, employee manuals, benefit summaries and compensation guidelines; Maintain a high-quality central HR function, including appropriate technology, systems and tools, including the use of metrics and people data to inform key decisions
- Manage the recruiting, selection process, and on-boarding processes. Work with management to ensure the selection of the right candidates for all positions
- Lead development and execution of employee engagement and retention strategies, plans, and initiatives including the design and implementation of training, mentoring and professional development and succession plans
- Manage the performance management process and facilitate improvement of performance management systems
Qualifications
- Human Resources professional with at least 7+ years of progressive human resources/organization development experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field; SPHR or SHRM-SCP designation preferred, Master's degree is highly desirable
- Deep and broad understanding of employment law, recruitment and selection, employee relations, compensation, and benefits
- Demonstrated ability to think creatively and collaboratively about staff development and training
- Previous management experience required
- Ability to influence and build credibility at all levels and establish collaborative working relationships
- Proven ability to operate in a fast-paced, complex, and geographically diverse organizational structure
- Ability to determine and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations
- Superior communications skills, oral and written
- Strong strategic and problem-solving skills
