We are Secure Community Network (SCN), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) serving as the official safety and security organization of the Jewish community in North America. The Associate General Counsel is responsible for providing advice regarding organizational issues, policies, procedures, governance issues, intellectual property matters, the interpretation and application of the law, and other matters including involvement in business transactions and negotiating critical contracts.


  • Draft, review, negotiate, and track contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding, as well as deliverables and requirements related to the same.
  • Negotiate matters with outside entities.
  • Research legal issues as needed and draft memorandum and correspondence related to same.
  • Hire outside counsel with approval of the CAO/General Counsel. Oversee and direct their performance. Evaluate the effectiveness of outside counsel.
  • Advise HR regarding employment issues.
  • Serve as a legal strategist and drive continuous improvement of standards and legal processes. Anticipate long-term needs of the organization and identify issues that may create legal questions. Recommend proactive solutions that will eliminate or mitigate risks.
  • Establish best practices on matters of organizational policies, compliance, governance, and risk assessment and mitigation, and set the future course on these matters for the organization.


  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited law school.
  • Currently admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois. Incumbent must remain a member of the Illinois State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in transactional or employment law. Will also consider attorneys from other areas of law depending on years of experience, credentials, and relevant analytical and interpersonal skills.
